Following Ethical Standards is important for a school counselor. The American School Counselors Association (ASCA) provides ethical standards all school counselors should follow. The hard part can be getting comfortable with the gray!
Recognizing the role of the school counselor in the context of the school is important. The school counselor is an excellent source of information, and serves as a support for students, staff, and families!
An important part of having a professional orientation is having a plan to implement with students. Adopting rules and procedures, and communicating them, will aid in maintaining a professional orientation in the classroom.
