Collaboration
Whether with administration, teachers, parents, or fellow school counselors, collaborating helps provide a greater degree of understanding and perspective. New ideas are shared, discussed, and a plan is put in place to increase student outcomes.
When a teacher came to me with concerns about arguing in her classroom, we collaborated on a plan for how to stop this behavior, and I presented a lesson on fairness and good judgement, including a discussion on steps to follow when something happens so you can make a good judgement. We also walked through a case study of a situation that often occurs in their classroom and they effectively talked out what SHOULD happen.
