High School

High school is an exciting time when young adults navigate relationships, learn more about themselves and their interests, and work towards determining what they want to do with their future. The high school years are some of discovery and exploration, and helping students understand themselves in all aspects of their lives is an area that brings me great joy!

As a school counselor, I value a proactive approach to helping students prepare for the future, including sharing information early and often about graduation requirements, post-graduation options, and providing clear communication about dates and events, ensuring underrepresented populations have full access to information and curriculum.

In addition, I provide responsive services such as individual counseling, helping students recognize their own desired course. Meeting with students 1:1 at least once each year, and more as needed, helps me develop and maintain strong relationships of trust with students and families, and allows me to understand their individual development and needs. Providing Section 504 support allows me to advocate for students who may need help accessing the curriculum, and also provides an excellent forum for teaching students to advocate for themselves as they move into life beyond high school. I believe strongly that "they won't care how much you know until they know how much you care," (Theodore Roosevelt).

Implementing a comprehensive school counseling program at the high school level takes planning and collaboration. Focusing on each grade level and different points throughout the year, my goal is to provide students and families with information and resources applicable to their current situation.
