Emotional or Behavioral Disorders

The Children’s Mental Health and Emotional or Behavioral Disorders Project seeks to normalize emotional and behavioral disorders, and provide opportunities for children and families to come together to receive information and support.

The National Association of Special Education Teachers is an especially good resource for teachers and other educators. Accommodations and modifications that are frequently used with students with emotional or behavioral disorders are listed, as well as providing information about specific disorders under the umbrella of emotional and behavioral disorders, and opportunities for advocacy.

Special Education Resources is particularly targeted for parents raising children with emotional or behavioral disorders (EBD). The definition of EBD is given, and article resources provide information not only about characteristics of children with EBD, but ways to help.

Evidence-based Strategies to Help

Providing opportunities to slow down, identify, and control emotions helps students with behavioral disorders. Zones of Regulation is one evidence-based method to help with emotions.
